I Changed My Bag Every Day Last Week

This exercise made me fall in love with my bags all over again.

I fall into the habit of wearing the same bag repeatedly. Despite my best efforts to change my bag daily, I often fall short. Last winter I did an experiment and changed my bags out every single day for a week. I haven’t done that in over 8 months since that post was written, and I decided to try again! I swapped my bag out every day last week, and let me tell you, it was harder than I remembered. It doesn’t help that I’m moving out of my house right now, so my closet has been completely all over the place over the last few weeks. I just barely made it, but I did it (evidence below!).

Saint Laurent Large Monogram Envelope ($2,590)

I’m pretty sure that no one looks forward to Mondays and I am no exception. I thought it would be appropriate to wear my favorite bag in my collection to brighten up my day, and to my surprise, it actually worked! I carried my Saint Laurent Envelope so much and was happy to carry it on a coffee date with my purse loving coworker (who kindly took this photo). I did a full break down on this bag last month and honestly cannot recommend it more. I paired mine with a wine-colored sweater dress and booties for the office, but it can be dressed up or down quite easily. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how much everyday use I have gotten out of this bag given its smaller size (at least by my standards!).

I recently developed an obsession with jumpsuits and this is the first time I paired one with a blazer. It felt a tad formal with the blazer so I threw on a pair of pearl and crystal embellished mules and my Céline Phantom Luggage Tote to make it more “me” (I’m a sucker for an oversized bag and sparkly shoes). I got more compliments on this outfit (and this bag) than anything I have worn in a while—this might be a new go-to look for me. This Céline Luggage Tote bag was on my Holy Grail wish list forever, particularly the phantom size with black hardware, and I still can’t believe I finally own one. This bag elevates any outfit and has become one of my favorite bags I’ve ever owned (which is an extensive list at this point).

Gucci GG Marmont Small Quilted Camera Bag ($1,290)

Normally my husband and I save our date nights for the weekend, but the Washington Nationals were playing in the postseason so we decided to bump our date night up to Wednesday to go to a sports bar and watch the game (go Nats!). I threw on a casual plaid dress in the Nats color scheme, a baseball cap, and my Gucci Marmont crossbody. This Gucci bag has been way more versatile than I could have hoped for when I purchased it (which admittedly was a bit impulsive despite it sitting on my wish list for months and months). I was worried I would never use this bag because of its small size, but it can fit more than you’d think by looking at it. It can fit a full-size wallet, sunglasses, keys, my phone, an inhaler, and a few lip glosses inside with room to spare. I was worried the light color would show wear easily but it is very durable and shows no sign of wear, which is impressive because it is probably my most frequently used bag. I carry it everywhere with me on weekends and I do not baby it at all.

Mulberry Bayswater Tote Bag ($1,519)

I have posted about my obsession with my Mulberry Bayswater bag a few times this year, but my love for this bag only grows stronger with each wear. The color of my Bayswater is very bright, so I toned down my outfit and wore a plain cream sweater with a pair of houndstooth cigarette pants. The bright orange and red hue of this bag really pops against my neutral outfit, which is why I pair muted clothing with it when I carry it. I associate this bag with happiness, it is such a cheery color. It also happens to match the foliage that is just starting to appear in the DC area, and I’m not mad about that one bit.

Chloé Faye Medium Leather & Suede Shoulder Bag ($1,950)

By Friday, I am usually so ready for the weekend that I end up throwing on the most comfortable clothes I have. I knew my outfit was going to be basic in an all-black sweater dress, so I threw on a pair of snakeskin booties and grabbed my Chloé Faye to complement the shoes. I love my Faye bag but often find myself scared to use it. As much as I love it, it has become one of my lesser-used bags despite being one of my favorites aesthetically in my collection. I’ve worn it a fair amount since getting it last December, but it spent all summer in its dustbag, it felt good to use it again! I ended up loving how the Faye stood out against my black dress and tights, the bag really is a stunning design.

Another day, another black dress! I love bright colors but have been gravitating towards all-black outfits quite a bit this season. I didn’t want to be dressed entirely in black, so I opted to wear my Marc Jacobs Stam. This bag was on my wish list for years and after reminiscing about the Stam last fall, I knew I needed to own one! I got my Stam for a steal on The RealReal and was so impressed with its condition! It looked brand new and had no signs of wear, and I scored it for less than $150. My stam is an emerald green color, which is perfect because I am a sucker for jewel tone handbags, especially in autumn. I paired it with black wedge booties, my favorite sweater dress from COS, and a statement necklace.

Polène Numéro Un ($420)

Sunday morning is for coffee, walks, and Polène. I grabbed my Polène Numéro Un and my husband and headed out to check out a local coffee shop and meander around our new town. The Numéro Un was a bag that I could not get off my mind last winter and after reading so many positive reviews on the brand both on PurseBlog and the PurseForum, I knew I needed to own one. The design is classic yet unique; I get so many compliments and questions about where I got this bag when I wear it. It is very well constructed and sturdy, the stitching is perfect, this bag exceeded my expectations in every way. I own the burgundy shade but am contemplating picking up a crocodile embossed version in navy, black, or hunter green for winter.

Since we are still in the midst of moving and our new house won’t be completed being built until December, I’m not sure the next time I will switch my bag out every single day. We are staying with my mom until we settle into the new place, but until then I am dedicated to trying. This exercise really made me love and cherish each of these bags in my collection and I should appreciate what I have more!
